Captain Compost's Plant a Tree Project
Captain Compost has been planting a tree with every kindergarten class for the last 10 years. First Captain Compost and the new kindergarten class choose the tree they want to plant. A Sugar Maple tree is the leaf on our Canadian flag and will grow to 75 feet tall .
The Sugar Maple tree has beautiful large green leaves three to six inches across and turn yellow, orange then a deep red color in the fall.
Sugar Maple trees grow at a rate of one to two feet a year and will grow to be 75 feet tall and forty feet across .
Once Captain Compost and his junior Spirit Warrior Kids team have picked the spot to plant their tree they will give their tree a name.
Example: Magnificent Molly Maple:
Next each student will collect a couple Maple leafs for the Maple Leaf Art project. Students will paste their Maple leaf on a Captain Compost plant a tree print and write the name and date they planted their Maple tree.
In eight year when this class will be in grade seven they can see how much their Maple tree has grown and feel proud for planting such a beautiful tall tree.
