Eco Ranger Rodney Clean Energy Project

Eco Ranger Rodney has been researching different clean energy sources such as solar energy and wind energy. Ranger Rodney is always watching for inspiring stories concerning Clean Energy when he came across a story about one of Canada’s largest Zinc and Lead mines now being used to mine sunshine.

                                                 What is Solar Energy?

Solar Energy is harvested from the Suns rays also known as solar radiation, when the suns rays reach the earth the energy is converted using appropriate technology into heat and electricity.

In June 2015, SunMine, near Kimberley B.C. Canada, began feeding energy into BC Hydro’s grid, making it one of B.C.’s first grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) installations and one of Western Canada’s largest solar projects. Using just eight hectares of land and over 4,000 solar panels generating approximately 1 megawatt of electricity, enough to power about 200 homes.

Eco Ranger Rodney applauds all involved in making this project happen. Taking a major pollution source and turning it into a green energy resource deserves recognition and high praise

Congratulations from the Spirit Warrior Kids program

                                             What is Wind Energy?

Wind is caused by huge convection currents in the Earth's atmosphere, driven by heat energy from the Sun. This means as long as the sun shines, there will be wind.

Wind power can be harnessed in a number of different ways. For example, windmills create mechanical energy, sails move boats and wind turbines generate electricity.

Windmills have been around from as far back as 200 B.C.

Wind turbines can be as tall as 200 meters and have blades that can move at a speed of up to 200 mph. Large groups of wind turbines are called wind farms.

One of the largest wind farm in the world is in Kern County California and produces 1,020 Mega Watts.

Eco Ranger Rodney would like his Spirit Warrior Kids to select either solar or wind energy and write a short story about one of these clean energy sources

This can be any kind of story, maybe something to do with a job,

a hobby, an event, an invention or anything  you feel passionate about. It doesn’t have to be a real story, it can be a made up story with made up characters and places, let your imagination run wild.

Maybe create a Super Hero that uses solar or wind power and how he/she uses their powers for good.
