Eco Ranger Rodney The Old School Can

Eco Ranger Rodney was hanging out in the alley with the other trash cans, recycle can’s for glass, recycle cans for plastic, recycle cans for metal and blue boxes for paper.

These newer, stronger and bigger recycle containers were snickering and giggling at how old and weak they thought Eco Ranger Rodney was. Comments like hey old can maybe it’s time for the crusher, or you shouldn’t be called a can you should be called a can’t.

Eco Ranger Rodney just laughed and said that’s right I am an old school can but I could tell you stories that would rust your hinges. Oh really old can, tell us your scary story said the plastic blue box that was half filled with news papers.

Well in my day there wasn’t any recycling programs like there is now a days, everything people threw away went right into one can, no separating any glass, paper, plastic, or metal. Separate dumping areas for poisonous toxins or recycling depots. 'Forget about it' There wasn't any recycling programs so everything people threw away went into one dumping area.

I can remember when people would dump dirty motor oil, antifreeze and cleaning products right down the drain. Once I was a gas station trash can and they would fill me with dirty rags, rusty car parts, pop bottles, plastic jugs and anything else they wanted to throw away.

Wow you were really filled with that kind of stuff? said one of the glass recycling trash cans. You bet I was, and worse. I remember one time during a home renovation I was filled with leaking paint cans, asbestos and fibreglass, you could never throw those things in a land fill now a days.

Gee Rodney you really are an old school can, tell us another story. Well there was this one time I was working at an orchard were they were spraying pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Every time they emptied a package of poison they would just toss it inside me and at the end of the day all the packaging and excess liquid was just dumped in the local land fill.

No way! They really did that? That’s right, before people knew the damage caused by these dangerous materials they would just toss them where ever they wanted. Now we have laws protecting the environment, recycle containers like you guys are on the front lines of protecting the planet.

Now people have to discard their toxins, poisons and chemicals in a safe and responsible manner. Electronics, car batteries, tires and construction materials are now taken to recycling depots. Paper, plastic, glass and cans are all separated and put into recycling containers like you guys.

Wow Rodney you are definitely an old school trash can but you have new school ideas, your like an Eco warrior leading the charge. I guess that’s why you're Eco Ranger Rodney, leading the way and changing the way people think before they toss it.
